The first signs of autumn are beginning to come through. I’ve been noticing fungi appearing in a few places and the grassed area outside the office has suddenly sprouted a fair collection of mushrooms…

Mistley Towers are the twin towers of all that’s left of the now demolished Church of St. Mary the Virgin at Mistley in Essex. I had no idea such a thing existed so it was quite a surprise when I saw this for the first time on my last visit

Weird light at lunchtime today as I dashed down to Lower Holbrook and took a quick march around the bay. I liked how (almost) all the boats were apparently itching to set sale into the River at any moment.

These swans came straight across to me when I stepped down onto the edge of the lake – obviously looking for food, I thought…but no – they marched up out of the water hissing at me…charming!

There’s a small pond next door to the office and I’ve seen these two moorhens popping in and out to feed on the grass. Everytime they see me they immediately dive into the cover around the pond. So this afternoon you could find me dangling out of the window taking

We had a walk in West Wood just outside Thaxted this afternoon. The original shot was OK but lacked a proper subject so…who could resist a steel rhino?

I’ve driven past these derelict buildings in Takeley many times over the last few years, watching them deteriorate more and more each time. I finally got round to stopping and photographing them today…it was interesting getting it level and straight! I do particularly enjoy the lamppost. in this shot.

Had a quick run across to Shotley Gate this lunchtime…I was looking to get some long exposures, but I prefer this HDR shot because it gives some idea of scale with the (actually quite large) yacht sailing past. These ships docked across the bay in Felixstowe are huge. I could
