019-365v5 – Hit or Miss

This is my Fender (well Squire) Stratocaster that I have had for well over 30 years. Sadly I’ve not played any of my (5) guitars for years, so long in fact that I’ve lost the callouses on the ends of my fretting hand which now means, whenever I play them I get bad blisters. I need to get back into playing again and build those callouses back up!

Anyhow, I thought I’d make this into a “Best Of” album cover for the Band Down By Law whose sticker adorns the guitar, Funnily enough, rather like my guitar playing, today was the first time I’d listened to Down By Law (DBL) for many years. For those of you who don’t know DBL are an American punk band. I was sorry to read that Dave Smalley (the singer guitarist and only permanent member of the band) has been struggling with his health and there is a Go Fund Me account to help with his health bills.

Looking back at many photos of the band I think it’s fair to say they have never used a Stratocaster on their records, but artistic licence and all that!

I might use this as my leading lines shot (for my 52 week project) as I quite like the way the neck of the guitar cuts diagonally into the image, the arrow of the band sticker bounces you back up to the curves of the body of the guitar.

The Strat has featured a couple of times on the blog before; here, and here.
