066-365v5 – A First Try

I’ve always enjoyed macro photography for many years, indeed, my first “proper” lens was my 105mm macro lens which I got about 15 years ago. Whilst I’ve enjoyed the lens, I’ve really only dabbled with the techniques, so, I am going to try and learn some more advanced techniques. Today I tried my first focus stacking shot and here it is.

I’ve shot this watch before (my old watch here) where I shot it full face so everything is pretty much in focus automatically. Shooting at an oblique angle means you only get a small proportion of the watch in focus:

As you can see, only a small slither of the watch is in focus here. This is just 1 of the 27 images taken to make the final image at the top of the page with all the watch in focus, but all the background out of focus.

Let’s not talk about the over bright specular highlights that do rather mar the final image…I need to work on that!
