The Moorhens around Doctors Pond have been doing very well this year…lots of Chicks. We didn’t have any Moorhens here until 4 or 5 years ago, we now have at least 2 well established families.

Despite living close to Doctors Pond in Great Dunmow we very rarely see damselflies in the area…indeed, this is only the second time I have seen one in our garden after 18 years of living here.

A second visit to the Phyllis Currie Nature Reserve, specifically for some bug photography. Unfortunately there was a very strong breeze blowing keeping a lot of the flying insects down. I still picked up a few shots including, just as I was leaving, the featured shot of the meadow grasshopper as

I regularly see a lot of rabbits on my morning walks around Dunmow. Today, I had my infra-red camera with me so wondered what a rabbit would look like…wonder no more – I like how the eye has come out particularly.

Highly recommend a visit here. It’s only a small reserve but has plenty going on.

Is it a hoverfly, is it a sawfly, is it something else? I don’t know, but the flower is definitely a yellow iris. Seen in Widdington today
