Somewhere new for me today. I travelled south past Chelmsford and on towards Southend. My initial plan was to go to Battlesbridge. I did go there, walked around and left disappointed. It probably didn’t help that it was overcast but what a dreary place! So, I headed back and saw a sign for Hanningfield Reservoir and headed there.

Never having been there before, the reservoir appeared to be extremely low. The hides provided for people to watch the birds were clearly supposed to be up to the waters edge, but were some 40 or 50 metres away in places. The birds, whilst plentiful, appeared to be made up of seagulls, mallard ducks and Canadian Geese. Still, it was a nice walk around about a quarter of the reservoir and I caught this sunset.
