This Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) was photographed in Rowney Woods a week and a half ago, but it is becoming more and more common to see these throughout the year. Previously these would only be present in the UK between May and September so it will be interesting to see
Autumn usually sees a large increase in the Fungi population, I know nothing about fungi apart from that bit about not eating them unless they’re straight out of the supermarket. This one’s red cap caught my eye as we walked through Danbury country park.

The original home of the Flitch Trials, Little Dunmow is located about 4 miles from Great Dunmow and, as the name implies is substantially smaller. Today’s picture was taken on Saturday evening as the sun set. The picture was taken, looking out from the Little Dunmow Priory Church.
The A120 connects Great Dunmow with Bishop’s Stortford and the M11 (and thus London) in one direction and Braintree and Colchester in the other. It’s the most important road in the immediate area and was recently turned into a dual carriageway and bypassed around Dunmow. Walking down the Flitch Way
Today was Dunmow Carnival day and the town was awash with bunting. The procession was lengthened quite considerably this year and there was certainly less numbers out on the streets outside our house this year – we assume because more people could watch it from the comfort of their own
A picture from much earlier this year of the old runway at Little Easton. I’m assuming this is the remains of the runway used during the second world war by the USA Air Force 386th Bombardment Group known as “The Crusaders”
We’ve not had a song title/reference for a while so see if you can get this one. We visited West Wood just outside Thaxted at the weekend (actually on our way back to Dunmow from Rowney Wood) and found this chap hanging around in a most peculiar position!
