Dunmow Carnival 2011

Today was Dunmow Carnival day and the town was awash with bunting. The procession was lengthened quite considerably this year and there was certainly less numbers out on the streets outside our house this year – we assume because more people could watch it from the comfort of their own front gardens.

As always the Carnival converges on the Dunmow Recreation Ground where a fun fair and bands entertained the throngs and a fire work display took place later.

When I took this photo I was completely unaware that a friend and his children were riding it as I photographed it. Apparently each time they span past me they shouted at me – I heard nothing! The ride was called “The Sizler”!

You can see more from the fair by clicking the “Continue Reading” link below.

The fair also had one of those aggressive type of Ferris Wheels – you know the sort – not only does it rotate at about 2,000 rpm, but you can also spin the capsules independently to ensure you feel suitably ill by the end of it – great fun 😉

As tends to happen with these occasions the “headline” band ran over so the fireworks were 30 minutes late and spots of rain were beginning to fall, but all was well and an excellent fireworks display took place:
