Popped out at lunchtime to Dedham, just inside Essex, but right on the Suffolk border. I made it as far as the first car park and saw just a tiny portion of the village. It looks a lovely place…even in the dreary misty grey light that we had all day
A quick walk around Rowney Woods unusually didn’t deliver many pictures, but this ivy looked pretty as it slowly crawled up this tree trunk.
A small group of hardy Bishop Stortford Camera Club members braved the inclement weather and visited Hatfield Forest for the last of the summer programme get togethers. It was cool and pretty blowy…but the clouds did eventually start to break up for the first time of the day.
No idea what sort of flower this is…I assume some sot of daisy…but who knows. Found in Rowney Woods this afternoon.
I’ve not seen many wasps at all this year – this is only the second one I have been conscious of seeing this year.
I have never seen so many dragonflies in Rowney Woods as I saw today…literally hundreds of hawkers flying around, particularly over the fields of barley near the entrance to the woods. The hawkers were far too busy to settle so I had to content myself with this female Common Darter

I have been trying to get an inflight dragonfly for some time and I finally got one today whilst walking through Rowney Woods. Typically, having failed a number of times previously I managed to get 4 or 5 of them today!

We had our first walk in Rowney Woods this afternoon for the first time in 2 or 3 weeks…the growth is amazing. We went, amongst other things, to find some dragonflies to photograph, but they had all cleared off…leaving a whole host of butterflies and moths dashing about…but my favourite
