This hoverfly was very keen to get as deep into the lavender as possible.

I believe this is a Japanese Anemone (or a variant on that). I’ve been watching these growing in a couple of gardens I walk past on my morning walk and had it in my mind to photograph these when next I had my macro lens with me which I did

Into the back garden and rummaging around the rosemary bush I found a few of these Rosemary Beetles.

It’s a bit noisy this shot but I enjoyed the look this Moor Hen is giving the feather behind it…and being a little short on top myself I could relate.

The Aster is coming along nicely, it’s only a few days since I last photographed it, the addition of the red in the petals gives this a nicely evil feel. See also the Echinacea in its formative days.

It was a rather lovely morning today in Great Dunmow…I cursed my laziness as I had ditched the big camera with the macro lens and went out with my super wide lens on the lightweight Sony…it was a morning full of sparkling dew on spiders webs…never mind…next time maybe!

From this mornings walk, this viewpoint from the top of Beaumont’s Hill is always a favourite of mine.

I think this is a small purple and gold (Pyrausta aurata) moth also known as a Mint Moth…and we do have mint in the garden. I’m a bit unsure because, well, there’s not much purple on it and last time we had these in the garden they were quite purple.

Debbie has a new flower about to bloom to keep me entertained when I have nothing else to photograph. This is a New England aster (Aster novae-angliae) and as you will gather, it hasn’t bloomed just yet, but it’s on its way. We have a couple of the flower heads
