The watermill is thought to date from the later part of the 18th century. The mill contains a large cast iron waterwheel and a complete set of gearing to three pairs of millstones. As recently as 2005 restoration was being considered, however the mill appears to have been abandoned now
Back to Tilty… If you walk past the Church, down across the field past the remains of the monastery you’ll come to a derelict water mill. Walk to the back of this and you’ll be able to see the old water course that used to feed this. What remains of

Hovering high in the sky is this rather impressive organ which was being tuned to within an inch of its life when this picture was taken – single, high pitched notes blasted at you for long periods of time is probably not the best way to hear the organ! More

On Sunday I pottered over to Finchingfield to have a look at the Church there and see if there were any opportunities to get some interesting pictures of the village itself. As you can see, showers were never far away… I was quite lucky with the weather, it meant Finchingfield
Pictures you see of Doctors Pond are usually taken from the North Street end of the pond looking towards Star Lane and the tennis courts, and that’s fair enough it’s an obviously attractive picture. This picture, on the other hand, is taken from the Rosemary Lane side looking towards Dunmow
