014-365v4 Don McCullin Rules

I spent some time photographing my wife’s water bottle today, you do that sort of thing when you are doing a daily project and it has rained consistently all day, but in the end, this rather simpler shot pleased me more.

I’m a big fan of photo books, although the price of them can certainly make you blanch at times. Here we have a small selection lead by the mighty Don McCullin but also including the rather wonderful Peter Mitchell, Bert Hardy, Chris Steele-Perkins, John Bulmer and Martin Parr. If you know your photographers you will understand that I prefer the more documentary style images, although that is a style I don’t shoot myself, mainly because I don’t enjoy photographing people (at all).

Kind of odd that I guess, but there you go. Many years ago when I was still a bit of a rooky I took a shot of some of my all time favourite novelist’s books, Iain Banks which you can see by clicking here. I actually prefer this older shot to today’s 😉
